What to do when you were involved in an accident
Step by step instructions of what you should do when you are involved in an accident.
- If anyone is injured attend to them first if you are able to.
- Contact the ambulance.
- Contact the police.
- Even if you were at fault – do not admit liability or make any promises. That is for your insurance company to sort out.
- Do not get bullied by any Tow truck operator to take your vehicle away where he pleases. Unless your are satisfied or know them, remember it is your right to say where your vehicle must be taken to. If you are not sure or cannot contact your Panel Beater, get it towed to your house if that is convenient.
- Make sure that you get a police report number. You will need it for your insurance company.
- Contact your broker or insurance company as soon as possible. Report the accident and get claim forms.
- Tell them where you would like to have your vehicle repaired.
